Monuments, Museums and Heritage sites.

The Priorat can take you back in time to the days when the Moors occupied these lands around Siurana. Take time to visit the beautiful site of Siurana and you will discover the legend of the Moorish Queen's Last Leap. Queen Abdelazia preferred to throw herself off the cliff astride her white stallion rather than be taken by Christian troops. This re-introduction of Christianism to the region has given us our most prized monument, the Carthusian Monastery of Scala Dei. Wander around this monastery founded by French monks from Provence, who established here the first charter-house on the Iberian peninsular.

Mining in the Siurana river valley has also left us a rich industrial heritage and  the most important site can be found in the village of Bellmunt del Priorat. You can enjoy a family day out at the underground levels of the Eugènia lead mine, now a museum.
As for the 20th century, it is worth mentioning local artists such as the sculptor, MarçàGiné, whose work can be admired at the local Marçà Museum or the Miquel Montagud museum in Cabacés.
