Wine

Red, white, rosé - then the newcomer enters into dimensions of crimson, cherry tones, straw yellow, golds...

To capture the character of the wines in the Priorat region, one has to have lived through the experience of the tender greens in springtime; grenache tinged with the purples of the setting sun; copper mountains spoken of by poets; silver olive trees mingled with the vines.

They say that the wines live, that within each bottle there is the winter, spring, summer and autumn of every harvest. One Region: Two Designations of Origin.

The region of the Priorat has two wine designations of origin or wine appellations, the DOQ Priorat and the DO Montsant. (DOQ - Denominació d’Origen Qualificada; DO – Denominació d’Origen) The DOQ Priorat is the elder of the two and was established in 1954, grouping together the territory that used to belong to the Prior of the Carthusian monastery of Santa Maria d’Escaladei. The soil has a high proportion of shale, known locally as llicorella. Nowadays, the DOQ Priorat has a place amongst the great wine growing regions of the world. [read more]

The landscape is abrupt and challenging, or in the words of the Catalan writer, Josep Pla, ‘cataclismatic’. Working the vineyards is a complicated, demanding and costly undertaking, and the vines produce very little compared to those of other wine regions. [read more]

[read more]

Vinyes grimpadores
