Primitiu de Bellmunt is the product of the vineyards owned by the Bartolomé family. Like many other families in the Priorat, Josep Bartolomé produced wine for family consumption and to sell in bulk. The survival of this heritage of old vineyards is a tribute to Josep Bartolomé's hard work through the difficult 60s and 70s, when many Priorat vineyards were abandoned.
In 1997 Antonio Rodríguez, Josep Bartolomé's son in law, started bottling wine under the label “Primitiu de Bellmunt”, produced entirely from local grape varieties, including carignan and grenache.
Since 2020 the winery has been run jointly by Antonio Rodríguez - responsible for growing and making the wine - and Joan Nicolàs.
