Montsant Viewpoint (Coll dels Solans - la Figuera)

Landscape is a complex concept that takes in a range of physical, biological and human aspects, as well as reflecting the interaction between people and nature over time.

In recent decades, the evolution of this landscape has seen crops retreating and forestry management being abandoned, associated with the overall trend towards depopulation of the countryside.

The landscape we can see, dominated to the north-east by the Montsant Natural Park with the imposing ridge known as the Serra Major, is a Mediterranean highland landscape marked by the relief that shapes the appearance and identity of the Priorat area, in which vineyards, olive groves and fruit trees, together with meadows and pastures act as a brake on this regional landscape dynamic through a large increase in biomass, with the consequent increased risk of forest fire. If this landscape and its biodiversity are to be maintained, it is extremely important to maintain and encourage this patchwork of woods and farmland.
