The timid origins of Mas Igneus Priorat go back to 1997 when, after a serious economic crisis in Spain, three small wine growers decided to join forces and set up a new cooperative that with the years became Mas Igneus. Like this the Poboleda cooperative, Alta Aleia and the Albet i Noya winery joined together, each of them making their small contribution on the basis of 100% organic production.
The new Igneus winery opened just in time for the 2004 grape harvest. The cooperative set up some years before was then turned into a company with the aim of creating a new brand, with wines already being made for this new project.
The design of the winery, with a large number of small vats, allowed the grapes from each plot to be fermented separately, so that the ideal moment could be chosen to pick them at just the right point of ripeness.
As the vineyards are located in different places and at different heights, the ideal point of ripeness for the same variety on different plots is unlikely to coincide in time.
Thus, each plot is harvested in accordance with its specific features.
Finally, with Ornella Stocchi we come to the present day. After 16 years of Igneus, by 2020, with a great legacy cultivated over all these years, Mas Igneus is a living reality.
Wine like V de Mas Igneus, M de Mas Igneus, Fusió, La Capelleta and Coster de l'Ermita represent the immediate future of Mas Igneus Priorat.
